Description
Arsenal Street in the Arsenal/Watertown Mall area has a whole bunch of closely-spaced mistimed traffic lights.
The lights give long reds to Arsenal Street traffic, even when there's no cross traffic or opposing left turners. And they're not synchronized, so lights often turn red just as a pack of cars gets there from the previous light.
It takes much longer than it should to drive through this area, even late in the evening.
This is especially a problem for the thousands of passengers on the 70/70A bus, who don't have the option of taking an alternate road.
Please retime these lights!

There's no reason why the lights would have to be unsynchronized just because of pedestrian phases. Whenever a light turns red just as a pack of cars gets there, it's an inefficient setup which can be improved.
The lights do have pushbutton-request exclusive walk phases, which I can't stand as a pedestrian or as a driver. I'd much rather cross with the parallel green. Most pedestrians do this in practice, and then nobody uses the exclusive walk once it happens.
And the lights cause delays even in the later evening, when there are hardly any pedestrians. They need to synchronize them, and loop-detect the side streets and left turn lanes.

This is still a problem.
Even late at night, having to stop at several long red lights for no reason really slows down the 70 bus. It only gets worse during higher-traffic times.
For the sake of people who ride public transit, *please* fix these lights!
